Maintaining the environmental
balance in Upper Teesdale is not a job that we can do alone. Fortunately
a lot of people believe in what we do and there is a lot of help available.

ENGLISH
NATURE: Site of Special Scientific
Interest
"English Nature advise the Government, and
other organisations, on environmental conservation. Herdship Farm, as part
of the triple SSSI site, works closely with English Nature and has specialised
sites around the farm under management agreements.
D.E.F.R.A: Environmentally
Sensitive Areas The
Department works with farmers to conserve or improve landscapes
of national importance while protecting the flora and fauna. Herdship Farm
is managed under the Environmentally Sensitive Area prescription of the
Pennine Dales.
R.S.P.B: Working with Waders Project
North Pennines
farmers have a crucial role in maintaining the rich suite of wildlfie present
in the North Pennines. Partnership working through projects like Working
with Waders aims to raise the profile of wildlife-generating, sustainable
farming.
F.A.B.B.L: Farm Assured Beef & Lamb
The aim of the
FABBL scheme is to provide beef and sheep farmers with a mechanism to assure
consumers and retailers that the livestock produced have met appropriate
standards of welfare and provide food safety assurance at every stage.
TEESDALE
COUNCIL: Economic Development
Teesdale Council
work with the community to promote the special status of the District
and the tourism of this unique area.
Working with a range of agencies they offer specialist help and financial
assistance to many business's in the area.
RABY
CASTLE: Game Conservation
Raby Estate,
have won awards for conservation work and, support the work of protecting
rare birds and the landscape around the upper dale area in which Herdship
Farm is situated. Without this support the farm would find it difficult
to carry out the wide range of conservation work presently undertaken.
The
Optimum Centre, Bishop Auckland College helps and advises business in
the District with all their training needs.
