Geologically, the Upper
Teesdale landscape is an amalgamation of natural and man-made
intrusion.
The dramatic escarpments of "Whin Sill" and England's largest
waterfall, High Force, were created during the
ice-age whilst, two
centuries of intensive lead mining have have given us a rugged, treeless
vista perforated
by man-made slag heaps and mine workings. |
It may seem a bleak and barren landscape to
some, but the Upper Dales of Teesdale is an undiscovered haven for all sorts
of wildlife............. |
